Hello, I'am

Bosco Segawa,

A change maker from Uganda

I am the founder of M-LISADA organization, co-founder of Dance of Hope and am dedicated to protecting and empowering vulnerable children.

Biography

Bosco Segawa grew up in Kampala, Uganda. Following the death of both of his parents when he was just 11 years old, Bosco found himself tasked with caring for his 3 sisters and spent his days on the streets collecting junk to sell as well as performing menial tasks to survive. In the slums of Katwe, Bosco came upon a musical performance given by students at St. Peters School. Captivated by the music and the crowd’s applause and appreciation, Bosco saw that music could be an avenue for a new, better life. Together with friends, Bosco inquired if the school could teach them to play, and in 1996, along with 8 other children, Bosco formed Music, Life Skills, and Destitution Alleviation (M-LISADA).

Today, both Bosco and M-LISADA are as active as ever. M-LISADA is a well-established organization that has pioneered numerous youth initiatives, offering psychosocial support to at-risk children and in 2019 after many years of planning, M-LISADA opened Passion Primary Boarding School, a school especially designed to recognize and accommodate the diverse and complex backgrounds and needs of vulnerable children. Since the start of M-LISADA in 1996, the organization and Bosco have worked with close to 2,500 vulnerable children and youth.

Bosco’s impact on his community has been tremendous. His strength, passion, and drive have had far-reaching and profound impacts and his dedication to supporting the vulnerable has made him a giant - not only in Uganda, but all over the world. While Bosco has unrelentingly supported those around him for decades, today the time has come for his community and global family to rally around him, and provide him with well-deserved support. Bosco, and his family (wife and four children), deserve to be provided with a legacy for all of the hard work and compassion Bosco has shown those around him. Bosco’s eldest daughter Jasmine is a team leader and a vital part of the Dance of Hope, a youth-based arts education program that was co-founded by Bosco himself.

While M-LISADA is only growing, gaining momentum, and doing increasingly incredible work, many communities outside of Kampala could benefit from his wisdom, drive, and experience. The time has come for Bosco to be elevated to his rightful status of community consultant, recognized for his efforts and provided with the title he has been performing without due credit. As a community consultant, Bosco will continue to support communities in need across the globe and help to build even more resilient transformational programs.

Friends of Bosco initiative

Supporting Bosco’s family with gratitude, and deep admiration

To commemorate Bosco’s hard work and many achievements, the Friends of Bosco initiative is geared at supporting Bosco and his family, while uplifting the projects that he has tirelessly contributed to. Through this initiative, his global family and friends can personally support him with any financial contributions so that he may continue pursuing his passion of uplifting children and changing lives. No one can single handedly change the world, and while Bosco has supported so many in his decades of service, the Friends of Bosco effort seeks to give back to Bosco and his family: a gesture of recognition, gratitude, and deep admiration.

Please consider becoming a monthly supporter to Bosco and his family.

Segawa Education Fund

On the eve of Bosco’s 40th birthday, the Segawa Education Fund was launched, with the aim of fulfilling his birthday wish to enroll 40 vulnerable children in school by February 2023 (a nod to this birthday milestone and Bosco’s many achievements to date), all under the age of 13 (commemorating the age when Bosco started M-LISADA). This initiative to sponsor the education of young children is an homage to the path Bosco himself took, with a hope that 40 ‘Boscos’ (and more) will emerge.

For $40/month, you can sponsor a child and these funds will go a long way in helping to ensure the educational success and wellbeing of young children in Kampala. We are excited for this Fund to launch, and are extremely grateful for all sponsorship support that we receive! This educational fund will help to honor Bosco’s incredible work in his community, and will continue sowing the seeds of his dedication and passion.

After you enroll in this sponsorship program, you will be matched with a child and more details will be shared.
